England’s World Cup 2018 qualifying fixtures in full

Sam Allardyce has been appointed England’s new manager charged with the task of restoring national pride. And he certainly has his work cut out.

The 61-year-old will oversee his first game later this summer – during an international friendly that is yet to be announced – but the business really begins in September.

The Three Lions start their World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign against Slovakia who, ironically, were one of the teams Roy Hodgson’s side were unable to beat at Euro 2016.

Allardyce will not have much time to settle into his new role yet anything other than qualification for the tournament in Russia will be deemed a failure.

And England cannot afford to rest on their laurels given that they face several difficult away trips, plus two encounters with familiar foes Scotland.

England have not faced their home nation neighbours in a competitive match since a Euro 2000 play-off, which the Three Lions won, courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.

With England set to be in transition until Allardyce can transmit his ideas and settle on his preferred line up the entire qualification phase is set be an intriguing affair as the former Sunderland boss attempts to deliver the success the nation craves.
